 Parents Express Concern after Rash of Crimes Opened Ohio State Fall Semester In the first semester of school at Ohio State, students and parents are already having serious concerns about the student's safety on and around campus.  From the minute students started moving in, cases immediately starting popping up with robberies and some even at gunpoint.  Just to name a few specific cases:  - on August 16th, the day the students moved in there was a student reported being robbed at gunpoint. - the next day near campus a car was highjacked. - on August 18th, three different incidents were reported. Three students were robbed of their purses, 2 victims were approached in an attempted robbery, and then two more students were robbed later that night. - August 21st, two students were robbed and their vehicle was stolen. - August 22nd, a student was robbed and sexually assaulted.  The Columbia County Fair        The Columbia County fair has been around since 1937. This fair takes place in the small town of Magnolia, Arkansas. The fair is six days loaded with your favorite carnival rides, yummy fair food, a petting zoo, different events that are held under the pavilion every night, and you also get to watch a livestock show each night. The Columbia County Fair is something you don't want to miss if you are in the area.          Along with all the excitement that happens at the fair, there was the Columbia County Fair Pagent held on Monday night. The winner was the beautiful Kory Jennings, an 18-year-old from Magnolia. Kory attends Southern Arkansas University where she is also a cheerleader for the Muleriders. She was crowned 2021 Columbia County Fair Queen. Winning this title allows her to advance to the Arkansas State Fair where she will compete to win at a state level.  Continuing on the rest of the week,...

One man dead, one in jail following Saturday night shooting in Magnolia The result of a shooting on Saturday night left a man dead and the shooter in jail. The shooter is Willis Landtrell Harris, a 32-year-old man from Magnolia.  The shooting happened on Saturday night at Fox Creek Apartments off of East University. The victim's name has not been released by the Magnolia Police Department yet or the details of the shooting. The victim passed away on Sunday at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science in Little Rock. The shooter was arrested by the Magnolia Police Department and placed in Columbia County and Justice Detention Facility as of Sunday at 3:40 a.m. He was charged with first-degree murder, a defaced firearm, and endangering the welfare of a minor.  This case is one of three homicide cases in the county this year.   HURRICANE MINDY Well, would you look at that hurricane season is upon us once again. Hurricane season runs from the beginning of June until the end of November. We have seen this just here recently in the last couple of weeks with Hurricane Ida, Larry, and now Mindy. According to CNN , Tropical Storm Mindy started with some heavy rain over Georgia and over parts of South Caroline. Forecasters have said that this could push flash floods and maybe even a few tornados through the coast. She has made her appearance coming up through the gulf on Wednesday afternoon. As Mindy continued, it finally made landfall in the Florida Panhandle in St. Vincent later that night. The news can come in all different forms, for example, the news that we watch on the television newscast, social media, the newspaper, and websites. According to  Merriam Webster , the news is defined as "a report of recent events, previously unknown information or something having a specified influence or effect."  In the world we live in today, we get the majority of our news from social media. Yes, I understand that there are still newscasts but as social media has grown over the years I feel as if the numbers that actually watch TV have gone down. Same thing with newspapers. As social media advances, you will see a decrease in people reading the newspaper.
